EXPLORER GLOSSARY / A–Z

The words behind the numbers.

A focused glossary for reading Litecoin records. Follow each definition into the guide or browser that puts it in context.

Address
A representation of a payment destination or spending condition. A prefix is a useful clue, not a complete validation or identity check. Explore this topic →
AuxPoW
Auxiliary proof of work: evidence accepted under an auxiliary chain’s rules to connect its candidate block with qualifying parent-work data. Dogecoin supports it; Litecoin uses its own Scrypt PoW rules. Explore this topic →
Base unit / litoshi
One hundred-millionth of one LTC. A provider may return integer base units rather than decimal whole-LTC amounts. Explore this topic →
Block hash
The identifier of a particular block. Include the full hash when comparing records; equal heights alone do not identify the same branch. Explore this topic →
Block height
A position in a chain, counted from the genesis block at height zero. Competing branches can contain different blocks at the same height. Explore this topic →
Change output
An output intended to return value from selected inputs to the sender’s control. An explorer’s change attribution may be an inference. Explore this topic →
Coinbase transaction
The special transaction associated with a block’s mining reward. It is not a reference to a cryptocurrency company. Explore this topic →
Confirmation
Depth of a transaction’s containing block relative to an observed active chain. It is not a receiving business’s account-credit status. Explore this topic →
Difficulty
A measure related to how hard it is for candidate work to satisfy the network’s proof-of-work target. Explore this topic →
Fee rate
A fee relative to a defined measure of transaction size. Units such as base units per kilobyte and per virtual byte are not interchangeable. Explore this topic →
Hash rate
A rate of attempted hashing. A public network figure is usually an estimate with a specific method and observation window. Explore this topic →
Input
A reference that consumes an existing output under the transaction’s spending conditions, in the ordinary transparent transaction model. Explore this topic →
Mainnet
The production Litecoin network, distinct from test environments or another blockchain carrying an LTC-labeled representation. Explore this topic →
Mempool
A node’s collection of pending transactions under its policies. There is no single globally identical mempool view. Explore this topic →
Merged mining
Coordinated use of compatible proof-of-work activity across more than one chain. It is different from switching work between coins. Explore this topic →
Merkle root
A compact commitment built from a tree of transaction identifiers. Displaying a root is not itself independent proof verification. Explore this topic →
MWEB
Mimblewimble Extension Blocks: Litecoin’s extension-block design with confidentiality features and a different visibility model from ordinary transparent address history. Explore this topic →
Output
A transaction-created value and associated spending conditions. A transaction can create several recipient and change outputs. Explore this topic →
Scrypt
The proof-of-work algorithm used by Litecoin. Hardware and hash-rate comparisons require algorithm-specific context. Explore this topic →
Transaction ID / TXID
A transaction identifier. It is not the same as an exchange withdrawal ticket, merchant invoice number, or account reference. Explore this topic →
UTXO
An unspent transaction output. A wallet’s transparent balance can consist of many such pieces rather than one account entry. Explore this topic →
